Oppose Wal-Mart (OWM) Recommends Supporters Take The Following Actions To Keep Wal-Mart Out Of Atascadero:
- COME TO THE ATASCADERO CITY COUNCIL MEETINGS, AND SHOW SUPPORT OF CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS WHO PROTECT THE GENERAL PLAN BY SPEAKING AGAINST WAL-MART'S APPLICATION DURING COMMUNITY COMMENT OR BY YOUR PRESENCE. The organizers for Wal-Mart are among us. They are taking over where Rottman left off. Wal-Mart and Rottman don't care that our town will be changed forever with a 207,000 sq. ft. supercenter surrounded on three sides by residential. Now that Wal-Mart is organizing in our community, every City Council Meeting is important to attend. At each City Council Meeting, we need to continue to take the high ground, stand up early in line, and speak so that the minority supporting Wal-Mart does not take control of the City Council Meeting.
- CALL THE "I SUPPORT WAL-MART" LINE AND GIVE THEM YOUR MESSAGE ABOUT WHAT YOU THINK OF WAL-MART BULLYING ITSELF INTO OUR TOWN286-1240.
- DONATE! Wal-Mart is beginning to pour funds into their campaign to stick their supercenter here, if you wish to donate to oppose this effort, please go to our website www.opposewalmart.com "donate."
- The CLUE (Clergy And Laity United For Economic Justice) Forum And Panel Discussion At The Atascadero Community Church A Success!
The forum focused on worker justice and struggles around big box intrusion into our communities. Rev. Alexia Salvatierra, CLUE's Executive Director talked about the crisis of working poverty and how we can support low-wage workers in our community in their struggle for a living wage, health insurance, fair working conditions and a voice in the decisions that affect them. She shared how we can support "good" economic development that discourages poverty. Wal-Mart development increases poverty and is bad development.
Oppose Wal-Mart taped the event and DVD's can be borrowed to watch this enlightening discussion. Please email info@oposewalmart.com or call 461-3710 to borrow a DVD and share with your family, friends, co-workers and churches. OWM would be happy to bring this taped event to your church to present and open up for discussion.
